Jean Carey Richardson, 87, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at her home in Eagle River, Alaska. Born in Eastland County, Texas, in 1933, to Mary Carey and Roy King, Jean enjoyed twirling in the marching band and backcountry camping. She married Frank M. Richardson at Wichita, Texas, in 1952, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in education. After her career as an educator and raising her family, Jean moved to Alaska to continue her mother’s legacy running Mary’s McKinley View Lodge in Denali State Park. Her storytelling was enjoyed by all, telling tales of Alaska and writing eight children’s books.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Frank, after 44 years of marriage. She is survived by her three children, Linda Williams of San Antonio, Texas, Carol Knudson of Eagle River and Joe Richardson of Trapper Creek, Alaska; three grandchildren, Shawn Williams of Palmer, Alaska, Taylor Knudson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mary Richardson of Talkeetna, Alaska; three great-grandchildren, Austin Hall, Haley Williams and Trey Williams; and five great-great-grandchildren.
