A foot or more of snow has fallen in much of the Mat-Su since the beginning of this week. According to the National Weather Service’s snow depth gauges, twelve inches of snow has fallen at Su Valley Junior/Senior High School since Monday. Areas in the Talkeetna Mountains had even more snow fall. Hatcher Pass saw nearly sixteen inches in the same three-day period.
Beginning on Tuesday, Matanuska Electric Association posted regular updates on various power outages in the Mat-Su. MEA says it had six crews dispatched across the Valley on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon, a seventh crew was called in to work on additional outages. As of 7:00 am Wednesday, those crews had restored power to all but 300 of MEA’s members, but outages began cropping up again later in the day. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were just under 1,800 MEA members without power.
As of Wednesday, MEA is continuing to provide updates on its Facebook page as well as through its outage map.
