Business Sponsorship
Underwriting with KTNA
Underwriting is the public radio alternative to advertising. It is a means for businesses and organizations to identify their product or service to the listening audience while showing their support for the quality programming that is only available on non-commercial radio. Program underwriting provides much needed financial support to KTNA. This ensures the continued broadcast of news, information, education, and entertainment to the communities of the Upper Susitna Valley.
Underwriting opportunities exist for all KTNA programming. Messages are worded to comply with FCC regulations and KTNA guidelines, which are designed to maintain the non-commercial mission and sound of KTNA-FM.
Underwriting Messages may include:
- Name
- Location information
- Contact information
- Business Hours
- Value-neutral descriptions of product or service
- Slogans that identify but do not promote
Underwriting Messages may NOT include:
- Information about prices, discounts, savings, etc.
- Qualitative language (“The best, leading, greatest, etc.”)
- Comparative language (“Better than.”)
- Calls to action
Both KTNA and the underwriter must approve messages prior to airing. They are recorded by a station staff member or volunteer who does not have a direct relationship with the underwriter. Underwriting messages are recorded without music and are limited to 20 seconds.
Example Message:
“KTNA programming is supported in part by (insert business name). Located on (insert address), (insert business name) is open (insert hours). Offering (list up to 3 items). Learn more at (insert website and/or phone number).“

Web Advertising
KTNA.ORG is one of the most visited websites in the Upper Susitna Valley. This dynamic site changes daily so people visit it often to read local news and to find out what is happening in the community with the Announcements page and Community Calendar.
Some people visit the website to listen online. More than a third of these listeners are in the lower 48 and over 14% are in a foreign country. They learn about the Susitna Valley – its people, amenities and attractions – by streaming our 88.9FM broadcast.
When people go to KTNA.ORG to find out about the Susitna Valley, your logo could be one of the first things they see. Each page of KTNA.ORG features a rotating tile of business logos in the upper right-hand corner. Each time a visitor to the site views a new page, the tile randomly changes, giving your business a great number of opportunities to be seen by our web viewers. Clicking on the business logo takes the visitor to the website or social media page of your choice.
Both KTNA and the advertising business must approve the graphic and the URL web address for the link. Graphics must be 250 X 300 pixels tall and must be in one of the following formats. .jpg, .gif, .png. We can help if you need assistance to create your graphic.
Web tiles are purchased by the month, a six month minimum contract is required.

Enhanced Public Service Announcements
Enhanced Public Service Announcements (EPSA’s) are purchased by non-profit organizations or agencies to guarantee that a message is heard a specific number of times on specific days. These announcements may be part of a long-term informational or educational campaign. KTNA places EPSA’s in a specific rotation, determined by the purchaser and subject to availability. EPSA’s are guided by FCC guidelines to maintain the non-commercial mission and sound of KTNA-FM. EPSA’s can include non-controversial, advocacy messages. All EPSA’s must mention a sponsoring organization that qualifies with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 organization, is a government agency, or is approved by KTNA staff as a qualified organization.
Credits must be approved by both KTNA and the organization prior to airing. Credits are recorded by KTNA staff or volunteer. KTNA reserves the right to review all EPSAs and refuse any that do not meet FCC or station policies and/or the right to edit EPSAs to meet these standards.
EPSAs may include:

EPSAs are limited to 30 or 60 seconds long, and a minimum of 10 spots must be purchased. A production fee of up to $20 per hour may be charged for use of KTNA studio, personnel, and/or production equipment to record EPSAs. The cost for a Legal Ad is $45 per spot.
