For the first time since September, the Alaska Department of Health and Social services reported fewer than 100 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day.
On Sunday, the state reported eighty-three new cases of COVID, with seven in the Mat-Su.
In total, there have been more than 50,000 cases of COVID-19 in Alaska, with more than a thousand hospitalizations and 257 deaths. More than 80,000 Alaskans have received at least a single dose of one of the approved vaccines. Just under a quarter of those have received both doses.
According to a vaccine tracker on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website, Alaska has vaccinated the most residents per-capita of any state.
While new case numbers have been lower, they are still in the high-risk zone. As the vaccine rollout continues, state officials continue to ask Alaskans to practice social distancing, masking, and hand-washing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
