Alaska State Troopers Issue Alert Over Lethal Narcotics
On Friday, Alaska State Troopers issued a narcotics alert for the Mat-Su Valley. Troopers believe there is a lethal batch of illegal drugs that has caused multiple overdoses and deaths
On Friday, Alaska State Troopers issued a narcotics alert for the Mat-Su Valley. Troopers believe there is a lethal batch of illegal drugs that has caused multiple overdoses and deaths since the beginning of April.
As of Friday, Troopers had responded to eleven overdose incidents, at least three of which resulted in death. On Monday, Alaska State Troopers released a dispatch describing the overdose deaths of three people in Wasilla in the overnight hours between Thursday and Friday. Another overdose death was reported in Wasilla on Thursday evening.
Troopers say that while use of drugs such as methamphetamine and heroin is always discouraged, those who do use them should be extra cautious. Law enforcement officials believe that the increase in overdoses is due to the presence of fentanyl.
The Alaska Department of Health provides free Naloxone to treat overdoses through its Project Hope partners around the state. Project Hope partners in the Northern Valley include Denali Education Center and Sunshine Clinic.
Troopers say that anyone with information regarding drug trafficking in the Mat-Su can call (907) 352-5401 or leave an anonymous tip online.
