Anchorage man arrested after temporarily eluding Troopers south of Cantwell

What began as an attempted traffic stop on the Parks Highway last Thursday turned into a protracted pursuit on the road and on foot for Alaska State Troopers.

According to Troopers, a 2004 Scion SUV was speeding south of Cantwell.  The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Ethan Kerr, did not stop, and continued on in the vehicle for about thirty miles.  Kerr was later found hitchhiking and detained.  Troopers say he gave several false identities before fleeing, while handcuffed, into a heavily wooded area.

Troopers, including a K9 units, searched for four hours, then found and detained Kerr without further incident. Kerr is being charged with two counts of theft, vehicle theft, escape, criminal mischief, providing false information, and driving without a license.  He also has an outstanding warrant for parole violation related to a previous burglary charge.
