Anja Radano makes it to McGrath, will decide whether to continue

Talkeetna musher Anja Radano is taking her twenty-four hour rest in McGrath, and will then decide whether to continue running in this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

The Anchorage Daily News reported on Wednesday that Radano fell into an ice hole while mushing through the infamous Dalzell Gorge. The Daily News reports that Anja was injured in the fall, but is not sure whether she has severe bruising, or perhaps a broken rib and leg.

Anja Radano then mushed on to Rohn, then to Nikolai. Fellow second-year Iditarod veteran Shaynee Traska became the first scratch of this year’s race while in Nikolai with Radano.

Radano and her Swamp Dawg Kennel team pressed on shortly before noon on Wednesday, and arrived in McGrath in the evening. Her mandatory twenty-four hour rest will be complete shortly after 7:00 this evening. At that point, she will decide whether to continue to push for Nome.
