A group of four U.S. Senators including Senator Begich have launched a US Senate Travel and Tourism bi-partisan Caucus.
The purpose, according to the senators, is to promote policies that reduce barriers to travel and raise awareness of the job-creating travel and tourism industry. Amy Klobuchar, Mark Begich, Roy Blunt and Mark Kirk are part of the caucus that wants to promote U.S. travel. All are from tourism-heavy states and agree that tourism is an important renewable resource
The caucus will evaluate ways that the US Department of State and other agencies can increase the speed of visa applications for foreign travelers and work on promoting the Travel Promotion Act. Klobuchar, Begich and Blunt all co sponsored that legislation, which was signed into law a year ago in March. The law promotes international travel to the U.S. and has established a national tourism board.
