At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, the Mat Su Borough approved the next step for the Borough-managed Talkeetna Lakes Park. An ordinance approved at the meeting Tuesday night vacates a section line within the Park boundaries.

A separate ordinance that was approved classifies land adjacent to the current boundary as public recreation land.  The parcels approved extend along Comsat Road and Christiansen Lake Road and exclude private parcels in the area as well as the lake itself.  The area will be added to the Talkeetna Lakes Park as was originally planned when the park was established. Ron Arvin was the only one who opposed the measure.

Work on the future ski trails in the park continues as the Denali Nordic Ski Club, the Parks Advisory committee and the Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District continue to look for grants.  The Borough has allocated $80,000 to mapping and developing ski trails and a competition loops inside the park.
