Borough Assembly approves community revenue sharing

The Mat-Su Borough Assembly has approved a second year of community revenue sharing funds for community councils.  The ordinance was passed unanimously at the regular meeting of the Borough Assembly Tuesday night. Last year, the Assembly received state funding to grant each community council in the Borough $20,200. Community councils throughout the Borough were encouraged to submit a proposal to the Borough that would use the money for a project to benefit their community. Some of the projects that were accepted were trail grooming, historical park renovations and stoplights for dangerous intersections. Borough clerk Lonnie McKechnie says that there are still 10 communities out of 22 that have not yet applied for the 2009 funds. The approval of state funding for revenue sharing for 2010 means that community councils across the Borough will have another $20,200 for projects to benefit their community.  According to McKechnie those funds can be consolidated with the 2009 funds not yet used to complete a project.  As was the case in 2009, councils need to submit a proposal to receive the funds. Chase, Susitna, Trapper Creek and Talkeetna are among the councils that have not yet submitted proposals to receive their  community revenue sharing funds from 2009.   All councils will receive a letter explaining the 2010 funds as well as a letter that says communities still have a chance to receive the 2009 funds.
