Borough Assembly to consider funds for Talkeetna sewer lagoon work, Yoder Road bridge

One ordinance accepts and appropriates a loan of $1.6 million for work on the Talkeetna Sewer and Water System. The low-interest loan comes from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s Clean Water Fund. The money will be used to remove sludge and other solid materials from Talkeetna’s sewer lagoon. The Assembly will also decide on whether to award the bid for the removal to Merrell Brothers, Inc.

According to borough documents, 780 tons of material are planned to be removed, dried, and transported.

This ordinance would bring the total accepted and appropriated from the Clean Water Fund to just over $2.54 million. The previously accepted funds are for planning upgrades to the sewer system after years of permit violations.

Another ordinance on Tuesday’s agenda would accept almost $1.5 million for construction on the Yoder Road bridge over Montana Creek. The bridge was damaged by flood waters in the fall of 2012. The funds come from both the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
