Tuesday was election day for the Mat-Su Borough. In total, three seats on the Mat-Su Borough Assembly and Mat-Su Borough School Board were on the ballot. On Tuesday night, the borough began uploading unofficial results (PDF link). Tuesday’s totals do no reflect absentee votes, including absentee-in-person ballots, which will be counted in the coming days.
Ballots in the Upper Susitna Valley included two candidates for School Board District 7. The in-person tallies for Tuesday across District 7, which extends from Meadow Lakes to the northern end of the borough, show Republican Lorie Colee with 953 votes and undeclared candidate Dena McChargue with 654 votes.
Two ballot measures were also on Tuesday’s ballot in the Upper Valley. One would allow for senior citizen and disabled veteran property tax exemptions to be prorated. More than eighty-five percent of the votes counted borough-wide were in favor of the measure.
The second ballot question was an advisory vote regarding a proposed fuel tax to pay for future infrastructure improvements. More than seventy percent of votes counted Tuesday were against the proposed tax.
The vote tallies from Tuesday will continue to be updated as absentee votes are counted. Results are unofficial until certified by the Borough Assembly. Certification is scheduled for November 18th.
