The Mat-Su Borough has closed the trail to the Susitna River at the end of Main Street due to erosion.
Recent high water on the river has sped up erosion that has been occurring in the area in recent years. Borough Code Compliance Officer Pamela Ness says the trail has largely eroded away, and that the area is dangerous. Caution tape has been put up in the area, and the borough advises people to stay away from the area. Views of the Alaska Range are still open from the portion of the A Street right of way that is still on dry land.
