The Talkeetna and Willow ice rinks have been deemed safe after the November 30th earthquake, according to the Mat-Su Borough.

Covers were built over both rinks over the course of the summer and fall as part of a recreational bond package. Jack MacDonald of Talkeetna Hockey Association says the ice is not quite ready to be used, yet, and that an announcement will be made when it is ready.

Walden says brackets that secure overhead lights at the Willow rink were damaged, but have since been repaired. Both rinks have been examined by a structural engineer and deemed safe.
