Rip-rap and other materials to shore up the riverbank will be delivered in a few days. After an initial visit from Borough Public Works Director Tom Adams on September 7, the Borough will be working with the Army Corps of Engineers to address the rapid erosion caused by the revetment failure.
District 7 Assemblymember Ron Bernier says that crews will likely begin to haul the rip-rap to Talkeetna over the weekend. He asks that residents be prepared for the truck traffic.
Bernier also says that the Army Corps of Engineers will send out a response team to determine next steps. The rip-rap won’t be installed until the water levels drop, but the materials will be available.
When asked if an emergency declaration was in order, Bernier says that the Borough will be contacting the Governor on Monday to determine if that is a possibility.
