Last month, Ron Arvin of the Mat Su Borough Assembly introduced a resolution that would support the bills in the legislature dealing with the Susitna Dam.
That resolution was tabled indefinitely. However, wording has changed and has been re-introduced by Assembly member Noel Woods from Wasilla.
The resolution essentially says the Mat Su Borough supports the proposed dam project and House Bill 103 and Senate Bill 42.
Several members of the Susitna Dam committee of the Talkeetna Community Council are questioning the resolution.
Last month, Assembly member Vern Halter questioned the resolution stating he isn’t sure that the Alaska Industrial Export and Development Authority should be the one to construct the dam due to past questionable projects such as the Healy Clean Coal Project, which has never been operational.
The current Susitna Dam project schedule, if the process starts next year, is 11 or 12 years of permitting and construction before power is available.
The resolution will be part of the consent agenda Tuesday evening at the regularly scheduled Assembly meeting in Palmer.
