On Thursday, KTNA’s Phillip Manning spoke with Mat-Su Borough Assembly Member Stephanie Nowers about the borough’s COVID-19 grant program for small businesses and non-profits, which begins Monday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Things to know:
- The borough has set up a website with a sample application, required documents, and other information about the process. Borough officials urge business owners to have all necessary documents ready before the application process opens.
- Grant applications open at 10:00 am on Monday, August 10th, 2020 on the website.
- Grants are for up to $10,000 or 20% of gross revenue in 2019, whichever is less.
- Those without internet access may apply in-person in Palmer (mask required).
- Applications will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. An application will only enter the queue once all necessary documents are attached.
- Businesses with 50 or fewer employees within the borough and outside of the cities are eligible.
- A business that has already received COVID-19 relief may apply, but priority will be given to applications from businesses that have not received aid.
- Both businesses and non-profits are eligible.
- To qualify, a business or non-profit must have a current borough business license and be up to date on borough taxes.
- Borough IT staff anticipate increased traffic, but believe the site will be able to handle it when applications open.
- This round of grants is funded for $13 million. Two more rounds of grants are planned for the future.
