The Alaska Division of Forestry has issued a burn suspension for the Mat-Su Borough as of 6:00 am on Saturday, May 21st.
The suspension prohibits any burning, large or small, that requires a permit. That includes debris piles, burn barrels, and lawns. Forestry asks that any Mat-Su resident who has burned in recent days double-check the ash pile to make sure the fire is fully extinguished.
The suspension does not apply to small fires, less than three feet in any dimension, used for cooking or warming. More information about burn permits can be found at dnr.alaska.gov/burn.
