Business Report for end of September

In the business report for the end of September —  As the summer tourist season comes to a close and blustery winds bring a reminder of winter, a number of businesses have either closed down or limited their hours of operation.A new business, just opened, that will stay open all winter is the Subway shop at the corner of the Spur Road and the Parks Highway. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Talkeetna Roadhouse, Flying Squirrel Café, Swiss Alaska and Latitude 62 and others have all gone to winter hours.  The Swiss Alaska has their famous Barbeque Tuesdays through winter.  The Latitude 62 will be having concerts off and on all winter, the first one being popular singer-songwriter Cheryl Wheeler on October 29th.  The Roadhouse continues to offer meeting space and the Flying Squirrel will continue having second Saturday art openings along with all the specials they offered during the summer.

Many Bed and Breakfasts and Inns don’t shut down for the winter so its worth it to check and see which ones may have space if guests come to town. Chinook Winds, Meandering Moose, McKinley View B&B, My Alaska Cabin, Trapper Creek Inn, Talkeetna B & B,  Northern Guest House and maybe others, are open year round.

Kahiltna Birchworks is closed for the summer, but report that their first season has been great and locals have been wonderful.  Their birch syrup, in various forms, is available at the Talkeetna Roadhouse and the Flying Squirrel as well Talkeetna Gifts and Collectibles and other spots.

Just a call is needed for some businesses like the Beadberry Patch to open up for customers. Normally the sign reads closed, but Beth Valentine says call her and she opens up for customers. KTNA will continue the end of the month business report through winter for new businesses, permanent closings and other information.
