Candidates for borough mayor post need to file by today

Friday marks the deadline to submit a declaration of candidacy to run for the open position of Mat-Su Borough mayor.Former mayor Talis Colberg resigned when he accepted the position as Mat-Su Campus director.
The special elections for mayor are going to be held on January 11.
So far, 12 people have declared their candidacy. Among them are Frank Bettine, John Leiner, Ken Clark, Larry DeVilbiss, Candy Gibson, Patricia Wade, David Wilson and Kurt Jarmer.
Interested candidates have to fill out a declaration of candidacy form, financial disclosure and campaign forms as well as submit a photo and a candidate statement. The complete packet has to be submitted by Friday 5 p.m. to the Mat-Su Borough clerk’s office.
Until the election, assembly member Ron Arvin serves as the deputy mayor and presides over assembly meetings.
