Area firefighters were able to save a house north of Willow on the Parks Highway, Wednesday evening after receiving a 911 call.
Tankers and crews responded from Caswell, Sunshine, Talkeetna, Willow, Houston and West Lakes to the call about a chimney fire at milepost 83 of the Parks Highway. A house just north of the Kashwitna bridge had a woodstove chimney fire get out of control. The 911 call was quickly made and the response was fast enough to get the fire under control before the entire house was engulfed in flames.
Eric Denkewalter responded to the scene and says the firefighters are calling it a save. The attic area is a loss after the chimney fire spread along the roof, but the main part of the house only received a little water and smoke damage. He says most of the homeowner’s property was salvaged.
No one was injured in the fire.
