The work of the 5 member Alaska Redistricting Board begins this week because the Board has been told to expect the detailed 2010 Census data to be released this week. Once the data is received the Redistricting Board has 30 days to come up with a redistricting plan for the public to examine.
The Board will hold public meetings in communities across Alaska. After the release of their draft plan, the Board then holds more public meetings in 25 communities across Alaska.
State law requires the Redistricting Board to have a final plan approved within 90 days of receiving the detailed community Census data.
Census Bureau has said their data will be released to the public Wednesday morning. 33 states have already been posted.
