Chase Community Council elects 2 new board members

The Chase Community Council elected two new board members at their meeting last Thursday.  Three people ran for two open seats.  Kim Sternberg and James Tunnell both won a seat on the Board of Directors and will be seated immediately.

The Board discussed their plans to continue looking at the Chase Comprehensive Plan and also heard the history of the plan. The Chase Comprehensive Plan was developed in the 1980s.  According to some residents, the plan needs updates but will not receive a complete overhaul for fear of getting tied up in the Borough’s bureaucracy. The Comprehensive Plan committee will continue working on the proposed updates.

The council is also looking at two different options: incorporating as a 501 c 3 organization, or just filing documents with the state of Alaska as a non-profit corporation.

Other items on the agenda were possible official signage on the Chase Trail to let visitors know there are residents living along the trail and using the Railroad bridge. Signage would help visitors and tour operators be aware they are entering residential areas as they use the various parts of the trail.

The council meets just four times per year unless more meetings are deemed necessary.  However, the council is scheduled to meet next month to discuss the Borough’s Natural Resource Management Plan before its comment deadline in March.  The meeting will be announced so residents that have views on the Plan can attend and make recommendations.

The next official meeting of the Chase Council is scheduled for April 15^th.
