Chase parking issue discussed by Talkeetna Council

Discussion on parking near the Chase trailhead in downtown Talkeetna took the majority of the Talkeetna Community Council’s time Monday night.

The council met at their regular monthly meeting with a number of Chase Community Council residents in attendance.  Borough representatives were present at the meeting to talk about the Borough’s lease lot at the Talkeetna Wellhouse area and the day use parking area at the trailhead near the old railroad depot in downtown.

Mike Wood, Chase resident, was just one of the many people who spoke and said that the issue came to a head this summer because of the large number of illegally parked vehicles at the parking lots in question

Discussion centered on giving the Chase residents enough parking space for long term parking, at the same time giving Talkeetna businesses parking spaces for visitors to the village, AND ticketing or removing illegally parked vehicles.

After an hour of discussion, Council president Billy Fitzgerald asked for a future meeting of Chase residents, certain Talkeetna business people and other stakeholders.  The meeting would continue the current discussion and include more voices to come up with possible solutions.

The Chase Community Council meets January 21^st and the item is sure that be on their agenda.  Chase residents also said that it was probable that the landowners group formed last year for the Clear Creek-Chase area — Chase Homeowners Association — would also have comments on the issue.
