Chase parking still under consideration

The Talkeetna Community council discussed the Mat Su Borough’s activities concerning the Chase trail parking area at their meeting Monday evening.  The parking area will need to be moved slightly due to the Talkeetna Sewer and Water filtration system that is scheduled to be installed at the pumphouse in August.

Borough community service representative Danny Keyes  visited with Chase and Talkeetna residents last month to try to come to a consensus on future parking, since part of the parking lot will be taken over by the filtration system.  His recommendation to the interim Borough manager was to remove part of a vegetated island near the pay box.  The idea would be to remove soil, and small trees, and then gravel the area for Chase residents to use as parking.

The issue is not solved and Talkeetna community council chair, Billy Fitzgerald said he had not heard back from the Borough on any final decision concerning the parking lot.  A suggestion was made for the Borough to look at the Riverfront Management Plan for future parking ideas.

Chase and Talkeetna councils continue to work together on the parking area, which is Borough leased and Alaska Railroad-owned property.
