Talis Colberg is the new Mat Su Borough mayor.
Colberg easily defeated the other candidates with 63% of the vote. There are still a little over 1,000 absentee, special and questioned ballots that need to be counted. However, Colberg has over 2,500 votes. The closest runner up, Bruce Walden, has 770 votes. The candidate has to win at least 40 percent of the vote.
Only 7% of the voters turned out to cast their ballots in the election, a dismal turnout even for a special election.
Steve Menard received 450 votes, Emil Butch Fondahn followed with 59 votes, Dave Straub got 54 votes, Frank Shor received 45 votes and John Leiner received 42 votes. That is the unofficial count. The absentee ballots are being counted. The Assembly will certify the election on June 23rd.
