A crash near Meadow Lakes on Saturday evening left an Anchorage woman dead and one man in the hospital.
According to Alaska State Troopers, reports of the accident came in just before 8:30 pm on Saturday. Troopers say 38-year-old Melissa Joy Labriola of Anchorage was driving south near mile 50 of the Parks Highway when her sedan crossed the center line and hit a pickup driving north. The truck was driven by 35-year-old Gary Alan James, Jr. of Wasilla. Labriola was declared dead at the scene of the crash, and James was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Troopers diverted traffic onto the new lanes, then announced the highway’s closure at about 9:00 pm. The Parks remained closed until after midnight.
Melissa Labriola’s next of kin has been notified, and Troopers say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
