The saga of the Su Valley hockey team theft continues. The hockey team from Delta, feeling embarrassed and saddened by the theft and vandalism that occurred the weekend of November 14th, held a skate-a-thon to raise all the cash needed to replace Su Valley’s equipment. According to the hockey mothers of the Delta team, twenty five hundred dollars was raised and a check from Delta school district is being mailed to Su Valley this week.
While the Su Valley hockey team was in Delta on November 13th and 14th, their locker room was broken into and twenty five hundred dollars worth of equipment was stolen. Both the Delta locker room and Su Valley locker rooms were vandalized.
Meanwhile, Su Valley hockey team members Corey Ambrose and Patrick Fitzgerald say that all their costs for replacing new equipment are going to be reimbursed. They said the outreach across the state has been enormous, as other hockey teams have heard about the vandalism.
The team won both games this past weekend against Glennallen. The game was supposed to be a home game, but the Talkeetna hockey rink wasn’t quite ready, so the teams played in Wasilla. Fridays score was 6-4 and they won again Saturday, 3 to zero.
The Su Valley team plays two home games against Hutchinson Tech in Talkeetna on December 4th and 5th . The team hopes for cold weather in order for the rink to be solid and ready by that time.
