Denali Highway Maintenance Could Mean Significant Delays

With interior Alaska in the midst of hunting season, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities announced over the weekend that the Susitna River bridge of the Denali Highway would be closed for periods between September 15th and September 20th for what DOT calls “emergency maintenance.”

DOT says that the bridge will be closed to all traffic for periods that should not exceed ten hours.  Between each closure, the bridge will be open for at least a full day.  While the bridge is open, traffic will be limited to one vehicle at a time, traveling at five miles-per-hour or less.

No schedule has been released regarding the specifics of the closure.  DOT says that residents can call 5-1-1 for updates.  This is the second closure of the bridge this year.
