Denali Nordic Ski Club announces no Oosik

The Denali Nordic Ski Club met on Tuesday night with about 15 people in attendance and a number of items on the agenda.

Chris Mannix announced that the club is doing well financially and still has a partial grant left to pay for skate skiing trails. The club is also the owner of two separate parcels of property in the Talkeetna area.   Some discussion ensued on the property that the late Mike Fisher willed to the club.  The property is fairly remote, but ski club members seemed to be in agreement that it could be the future site of a warming hut and added ski trails.

Art Mannix announced that no Oosik Ski Race would be held this year, but hinted if someone else is willing to take over event planning, that he would hand over the reins.  The race normally takes place in mid-March and Mannix said he has been overwhelmed with phone calls from around the state asking about the race.

Trisha Costello was a person-to-be-heard on the agenda and encouraged the club to assist the Chamber of Commerce in a wayside improvement project at the overlook outside of town. The project would entail signage by Kevin Foster and Ross Bennichek and point visitors to landmarks at the scenic overlook.  She is hoping to get a special funding from the Borough for the project.

The club’s bylaws committee will meet next week to examine any changes that need to be made in the by laws. The club’s annual membership meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 13^th.  Five people  have volunteered to run as new directors for the Board to be elected at that meeting.
