Denali Report for June 7th, 2019

As of Thursday, there are 1,181 climbers registered to attempt Denali.  Of those, 528 are on the mountain, and 377 climbs have been completed.  One hundred, seventy-three climbers have reached the highest point in North America, making the summit rate forty-five percent.

Thirteen climbers are registered to attempt Mt. Foraker.  Two attempts are underway, and eleven have been completed.  There have been no summits of Mt. Foraker so far this year.

After a slow start the summit for Denali is nearing the annual average.  According to the National Park Service’s Denali Dispatches blog, around one hundred climbers had been waiting for the winds to die down high on the mountain.  On Wednesday, the winds calmed, and many teams set off for the summit.

Glacier conditions are reported to be remarkably good for this point in the season between base camp and 11,000 feet, though there have been at least a dozen crevasse falls reported between Windy Corner and Fourteen Camp.
