Denali State Park celebrates Trails Day June 4th

The state of Alaska is jumping on board National Trails Day.  Since 1993, the first weekend in June is known as National Trails Day.  Events usually include hikes, new trail dedications, educational events, and trail maintenance.

The event came out of a 1987 report of President Ronald Reagans’ Commission on Americans’ Outdoors.  The report recommended that Americans should be able to walk out their front doors and within 15 minutes be on trails in their communities.

Denali State Park, specifically, is celebrating the day by hosting a spring clean up.  Volunteers will clear brush around the Byers Lake trail and  learn about the Denali State Park Trail Management Plan.  Gloves and tools will be available for the volunteers. There is also a GPS Savenger Hunt planned.  The events start at 10:30 on Saturday June 4^th.  There is also complimentary camping in the park that evening. Anyone who uses Denali state park trails, Byers Lake and other areas is encouraged to take part.
