Downed line stops traffic on Parks Highway

A downed power line Thursday evening on the George Parks Highway created a back up of traffic  Sheep Creek Lodge.

A number of upper valley residents were headed north bound and were stopped at Sheep Creek Lodge for close to 3 hours while they waiting for emergency technicians to remove the presumably live electric line.

Tony Zellers, director of operations for MEA, says an oversize tractor trailer passed under a  power line and the vehicle was large enough to graze and grab the line.   The line that snaked across the highway stopped traffic.

Reports from local residents indicate that close to 90 cars were waiting to travel northbound and perhaps over 100 vehicles waited in the southbound lane until MEA resolved the issue.

There are a few reports of a very brief power outage when the accident occurred.

The line was safely removed around 9 pm.
