Driveways constructed on or before August 26th, 2017 are still eligible for a permit fee waiver. At least until September 30th.
Driveways that access Borough roads and easements and that were installed without the required permit may be eligible for the waiver. The permit does not apply to driveways in Houston, Palmer, and Wasilla.
Properties accessing State roads may be required to get a State driveway permit. Even if your driveway links to an unmaintained road that is dedicated to the public, it still requires a permit.
Residents can download the permit application by visiting the Borough website. The Borough’s aerial imagery from 2017 shows any driveways that were installed prior to that date. Fees collected for driveways built before 2017 will be issued a full refund once they are approved.
New driveway construction after the August 2017 date also needs a permit. But does not qualify for a complete fee waiver. All but $50 of the $200 collected for the permit will be returned once the new driveway is approved.
When asked last year about the program, Borough Planning and Land Use Director Alex Strawn says driveway permits are an important way to ensure safe streets and rights-of-way. They help reduce the potential for drainage, maintenance, and safety issues.
