The Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring a drug-take back day for unused and expired drugs in the Mat-Su Borough.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, drugs entering waterways are having a negative impact on wildlife populations. And one way they get into the water is when they are flushed into municipal sewer systems.
Disposing of medications this way also helps reduce prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning.
Residents can bring medications in the original packaging or a generic bag. Liquid medications are also welcome, but they should be tightly sealed and in the original container.
Personal information should be removed from any of the medication packages.
The drug take-back event will be on October 26th from 10am to 2pm at the Fred Meyer locations in Wasilla and Palmer.
