Fatal crash closes Parks Highway near Mile 89

A fatal collision south of Talkeetna shut down the Parks Highway for much of Friday afternoon.
According to Alaska State Troopers, the crash was reported shortly after 11:00 am. According to Troopers, a 2016 Toyota Camry struck a 2002 Chevy pickup in a head-on collision.
EMS, Troopers, LifeMed, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene. One person, who has not yet been identified, has died as a result of the crash. Three others have been transported to the hospital.
Traffic remained stalled in both directions for hours after the crash. Shortly before 4:30, drivers reported one lane had been opened, and traffic was moving one direction at a time.
