The Talkeetna Fire Department responded to a call on Monday evening when a shed on mile 6.5 of the Talkeetna Spur Road caught on fire and burned down.
Talkeetna Fire and Rescue captain Tim Morgan said that four fire trucks and eight fire fighters responded to the scene. The responders controlled the fire and contained it to the shed so that the blaze did not spread to a nearby house. Nobody was injured in the fire, but the shed is a total loss, Morgan said.
He added that as the cold season starts, the fire department encourages people to use extra caution in heating their homes. Morgan said to make sure that combustibles are placed away from the heat source and that no drapes or other easily ignitable fabric is close to stoves or heaters. Now is the time to ensure that heating units are properly installed and in clean working order.
