Several fire departments as well as Alaska State Troopers responded to a cabin and garage fire at milepost 1.2 of the Talkeetna Spur Road Thursday afternoon. According to Borough spokesperson, Patty Sullivan, numerous fire engines responded including Talkeetna, Willow, Houston and Big Lake. The Division of Forestry also responded for fear that a wildland fire could spread quickly in the area.
The cabin and garage that burned were directly across the Spur Road from the Sunshine Storage facility. The property is owned by Gary and Linda Peters. No one was injured in the fire and the Mat Su area Red Cross responded to the property quickly to help the family.
Sullivan said it is believed the fire started in the garage and spread to the cabin and she said the fire was contained to less than ½ an acre. The cause of the fire at this time is undetermined.
