The Mat-Su Borough staff has chosen a bidder for the $100,000 assessment of the Talkeetna Sewer and Water system. The assessment is funded by a grant from the state legislature. Members of the Sewer and Water Advisory Board and Community Council appealed to the legislature for help to make the system financially solvent, which led to the legislative grant.
The Mat-Su Borough issued a request for proposals in early December, and received seven responses. Mat-Su Public Works Director Terry Dolan says that CRW Engineering received the highest proposal score from the Borough purchasing office. CRW is the same firm that is taking on the design of the pedestrian underpass near Su-Valley Junior and Senior High School. Terry Dolan says the next step is for the Borough and CRW to enter negotiations for exactly how much can be accomplished with the $100,000 grant. In a previous interview, Dolan said he realizes that the full list of requests is not likely to be achieved with this grant, but it represents the Borough’s total wishlist. After CRW and the Borough reach an agreement on the scope of the assessment, work can begin. Terry Dolan says that the timeline is still on track to have data available by this summer.
