Governor Mike Dunleavy has declared a disaster for wildfires in the Mat-Su and Kenai Peninsula Boroughs.
According to the announcement on Friday afternoon, the disaster declaration activates multiple state programs, including public assistance, individual assistance, and temporary housing programs. The public assistance program allows some of the costs to local fire departments who have been fighting the McKinley, Deshka Landing, and Swan Lake Fires to be reimbursed.
Individual assistance is designed to help people who suffer property losses in a disaster, and can help with temporary housing.
Information on how to apply for the programs activated by Governor Dunleavy’s declaration is expected in the coming days.
