Gubernatorial Hopeful Visits Talkeetna for Meet & Greet
Gubernatorial candidate, Jonathan Kreiss-Tompkins, also known as JKT, visited Talkeetna recently on the campaign trail. He greeted an audience at the Talkeetna Inn of over 70 people. It wasn’t the first time JKT has campaigned in Talkeetna. According to JKT, visiting communities and listening to residents is a top priority.
I got to all nineteen Boroughs in the state, from North Slope, to Aleutians east, to Wrangell, to all points in-between. And we went to the Arctic by snow machine and we went to the Yukon River by boat.”
JKT spoke about his past experience working in the state legislature. He says that nurturing those relationships and recognizing the commonalities of Alaskans is what his campaign stands for.
“Those ten years in the legislature, I served until 2022, were very formative as someone who cares a lot about this state. Our goal, coming out of the primary, has really been to, sort, of unite that more moderate, that more reasonable majority of Alaskans, whether Democrats or Independents or Republicans, about trying to have a pragmatic, problem-solving oriented administration that can go to Juneau and that can work with the legislature to solve problems.”
JKT was born in Alaska and was raised in the town of Sitka. He was elected to the Alaska State Legislature when he was only 23 years old and is running for Governor as a Democrat. In the August primary, he emerged as the top candidate with 22.5% of the overall votes. The top Republican in the primary was Bernadette Wilson of Anchorage. Alaska’s 2026 gubernatorial election will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd.
