James Kack, 37, of Wasilla, was driving southbound at milepost 88.5 of the Parks Highway when he tried to pass two slower moving vehicles. Stacey Kilchrist, 31, of Trapper Creek was headed northbound. Kack tried to cut back into the southbound lane and lost control of his vehicle. He collided with Kilchrist’s vehicle. Kilchrist’s vehicle rolled over once and came to rest upright, meanwhile Kack’s vehicle slid 75 feet and blocked one lane of the Sheep Creek bridge.
Both Trapper Creek and Willow EMS responded to the scene and treated both drivers. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and did not require hospitalization. Both vehicles are considered a total loss. Kack, of Wasilla, was issued separate citations for driving at an unsafe speed and passing in a no passing zone.
