According to Alaska State Troopers, three people were hospitalized following a head-on collision on the Parks Highway over the weekend. According to Alaska State Troopers the crash occurred at Mile 81 of the Parks Highway just after one-thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, July 29th. 58-year-old Talkeetna resident David Ulvestad was driving his blue dodge dakota northbound on the Parks Highway when he crossed the southbound lane, entered a pullout rest area, and glanced off a guardrail before colliding head on with a red 2006 Jeep Commander driven by Lisa Ellison, age 44, of Anchorage.
Medical personnel from Houston, Willow and Talkeetna responded to extricate the victims. All parties suffered serious injuries. Ulvestad and Vogus-Richards were life-flighted to Alaska Regional Hospital in critical condition and Ellison was transported by EMS to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. All parties reported wearing their safety belts. Both vehicles and the camper trailer towed by Ellison’s vehicle were totaled in the collision. It is unknown at this time why Ulvestad’s vehicle left its lane of travel.
