Holiday Campaign nabs 21 DUIs in first week

As many Alaskans prepare to spend some quality time on highways for the Thanksgiving holiday, Alaska State Troopers have stepped up DUI enforcements.

In a press release from the Department of Public Safety, the Troopers’ Anti-DUI campaign began on November 14^th, and has resulted in 21 DUI arrests, 23 charges of drivers who were driving with a revoked license, and 12 drivers who were contacted after being reported to troopers as unsafe drivers through the Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately, or REDDI program. The REDDI program encourages people to call 911 when they see dangerous driving behaviors such as weaving in and out of lanes, making wide or high speed turns out of assigned lanes, or straddling the center line.

Troopers have also issued three hundred and eight citations for moving vehicle violations. Ninety-eight of those were for speeding, six were for driving without a seatbelt.

The Anti-DUI campaign will continue through the holiday, Troopers say.
