Humphrey trial ends in mistrial

Last week, Rodney Humphrey of Trapper Creek awaited his fate as a jury listened to testimony and then went into deliberation several serious charges that would most likely mean years of prison for Humphrey.  Humphrey was charged with attempted murder, assault, driving under the influence and driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.  A mistrial was declared after the jury could not come to a consensus.

Humphrey was accused of running over a man with his truck last year during the Trapper Creek Bluegrass festival held on Boots Rosseau’s land.  Aaron Dorfman of Texas survived but sustained serious injuries.

It was up to the jury to decide if Humphrey ran over Dorfman on purpose or by accident and whether he was drunk when he ran over the man.

On Friday afternoon, the jury declared that Humphrey was guilty of driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.  However, they didn’t agree on the attempted murder charges, assault and driving under the influence.  The Troopers had taken hours to arrive on the scene and the defense made it clear it was possible that Humphrey drank enough in the interim to become drunk even though he was sober when he ran over Dorfman.

The DA’s office has until Thursday to decide whether they will re-try Humphrey.
