Four hikers in the Hurricane area of Denali State Park were rescued by helicopter after they became fatigued from covering a larger area without adequate water or food.
The Alaska State Troopers report they received notice of stranded and lost hikers on Wednesday morning. 75-year-old Phillip Low of Fairbanks, 21-year-old Ryan Sommers Eagle River, and 22-year-old Lindsay Sommers of Eagle River and 22-year-old Altaira Wilhelm Fairbanks were hiking in the Hurricane area of the Parks highway and became physically unable to walk out due to lack of food and water. The rescue helicopter Helo 1 responded and rescued the hikers and transported them to their vehicle without injury.
