An ice jam on the Susitna River near Curry shut down the Alaska Railroad north of Talkeetna over the weekend.
According to Railroad External Affairs Director Tim Sullivan, the jammed river overflowed onto the tracks between rail miles 247 and 250.
Northbound rail passengers on Saturday were transferred to buses in Talkeetna before being driven to their final destinations in Denali or Fairbanks. Both the north and southbound freight trains were canceled. Alaska Railroad personnel assessed damage from the flooding on Sunday.
Whether trains will resume operating north of Talkeetna on Monday has not yet been announced.
