CLEAR-CUTTING ALONG THE HIGHWAY— The Department of Transportation began their highway improvement projects by clear cutting areas between mile 72 and mile 83 of the George Parks Highway. The DOT reconstructs the Parks Highway from Willow Creek to Kashwitna and plans to resurface the road from mile 83 to mile 90. With heavy equipment, contractors cut down timber to create a wider corridor between forest and roads to minimize traffic accidents with moose. Photos by Diana Haecker
