Another death on Denali occurred last Friday morning. This time it wasn’t a fall or an accident. 52 year old Brian Young of Kodiak died of an apparent cardiac arrest at the 17,200 ft High Camp.
According to his tent mates, he came into the tent to go sleep after a long 20-hour summit day and suddenly stopped breathing. Friends immediately notified the Park Service mountaineering patrol stationed at the camp. They started CPR. Young did not regain a pulse and was pronounced deceased by the volunteer physician assistant at the camp.
Young is the 5th person to die on Denali this year and his death marks the 8th death in the Alaska Range this climbing season.
