KTNA hires half time news reporter

KTNA has hired a part time news producer, Diana Haecker, to assist full time news producer and editor Sue Deyoe.

Diana Haecker has been in Talkeetna for over a year, but lived here a number of years ago. She previously lived in Nome for 7 years. Her credential list is long –She speaks German, French, English, Japanese and some native Hawaiian and rudimentary Inupiaq. She knows Latin, but won’t admit it. She still works as a contract writer for the Nome Nugget. She has produced film documentaries for German public television, produced feature stories while living in Hawaii and worked with international newspapers and magazines. She won the First Place best sports story from Alaska Press Club in 2009. Other Alaska Press awards include: Best News Photo 2007, second place best sports series for 3 consecutive years 2006, 07 and 08, second place best news story 2008; She received the National Newspaper Association’s first place award for best investigative reporting in 2007; first place best environmental story in 2009; For the National Federation of Press Women – first place special articles and social issues in 2009 and second place Special Articles in Science in 2009. She has been a journalist for the past 20 years.

She and her husband Nils have a 5 year old daughter, Lizzy, and 30 sled dogs. Nils is a competitive musher who has competed in the Iditarod as well as short distance mushing.

Expect to hear her reports on happenings with the Susitna Community Council and other local news, reporting on some of the Borough issues, School events, and later this winter — sport stories and the Iditarod. She’ll be assisting in the production of Su Valley Voice as we try to bring it back on a regular basis.
